Together with our Premium Partner Izopoli Lambda Inşaat San. ve Tic. A.S. from Istanbul-Turkey, BEMO realised for the in international acting Main Contractor ENKA Insaat ve San. A.S., the free-formed metal envelope for a new Cruise Port at Prince George Wharf in Nassau-Bahamas.

Next to the fact that the project was on a fast track, many technical challenges had to be tackled, like e.g.:

  • Extreme wind loads
  • All materials need to be selected for maritime usage
  • The primary steel construction and the metal envelope needed to be designed in parallel, so just theoretical models were available

Based on the excellent and intensive coordination between the Engineering Departments of Izopoli Lambda and BEMO, a build-up and detail concept was developed, which allow considering the not upfront known tolerances between the as-built primary steel construction and the metal envelope, which was made of BEMO-MONRO® free-formed standing seam profiles.

So the design of the entire build-up, the adjustable BEMO-DOME sub-construction with around 2.2 km tubes and nearly 1.000 unique pieces, the 1.256 individual BEMO-MONRO free-form panels and all connections to ancient trades, as well as the production of all these parts was made on the base of the theoretical steel model and the design surface for the metal envelope.

By considering an additional X-Factor for the levelling of the BEMO-DOME construction, to accommodate every unknown on-site occurring difference between these two design models, the solution was to provide upfront structurally calculated elevation systems, which were supplied as “spare” parts to the site.

All these procedures and actions were necessary, since all requested materials, tools etc. need to be produced and supplied, even before the steel construction installation started, from Germany and Turkey to Nassau – as any short and quick replacement or additional material supply was not possible because of the long shipment times.

An excellent and very experienced team from Izopoli Lambda did the installation on site and worked in this phase hand-in-hand with the Engineering Departments. The as-built steel was measured sector by sector and the data were sent to the Engineers, who analysed them over night and provided the levelling and installation data for the site team the next day – so a constant process without interruption could be granted to realize the tough time schedule.

Finally, the result was that everything fit in place as commonly designed and another stunning project could be successfully handed over for a sustainable long-term usage and many passengers to start and end their cruise under a BEMO roof.
